Has anyone had any luck with the getting the ReCaptcha plug-in to work?  I've tried a couple different versions but can't make it happen.

Thanks in advance for the help...

Netabove,

If you haven't updated to WordPress 3.0 yet - then I would suggest to as you will find that most plugins work with the updated package.

Steven,

This is the best answer you have? Wow... I purchased Wordpress MU for a clients site only a few ago ($99) only to find out that when 3.0 came out it was going to cost me another $69 for the new product?  I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense to me.

I have a 12 month subscription to download upgrades and plug-ins but now I truly feel (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) I'm getting the short end of the stick with this.

As a business man and a company you can choose how you'd like to do business and to treat your customers but if I made decisions like this, I wouldn't be in business very long.

Telling me to spend more money on something I paid for support on for 12 months isn't how to keep my business.

Thanks for not helping.

We have notified all WordPress for Joomla! 2.x and WordPress MU for Joomla! 2.x about the upgrade options along with discounted upgrade options. If you have not received this email please feel free to email our support desk for the update discount code as it expires at the end of this month.

I have not said that we will not continue to support you - we will. If you need assistance on a specific plugin feel free to contact our support desk. We are here to help. Not banish any of our customer.

As for the choice of providing the product as a separate upgrade here is a detailed explanation:

WordPress for Joomla! 2.x and WordPress MU for Joomla! 2.x where two completely separate codes bases. We treated both of these products as two different products as the support for each are quite different. When we started to developer WordPress 3.x we ended up redefining what we did with the WordPress 2.x releases creating a completely new code base.

Since our products are subscription based we informed all of our current clients about the decision of moving to a new subscription before the release.

If you need any further detailed assistance please feel free to contact us.

Steven,

I appreciate the hard work it took to build this extension... I've built, altered and changed many...

There aren't many out there that cost this much but I was sure that this was going to be the best for my clients.  Now, after only a few months, I'm having to tell them to upgrade it's going to cost them more money to get a plug-in to work.  The version of MU I purchased claimed that most of the Wordpress plug-ins would work... Well, I haven't found any that I didn't have to chase down bugs and recode to work with Joomla.

All I came here for was to possibly find another member that have solved the issues that I have with the reCaptcha plug-in... I honestly didn't expect someone to waltz in, ask me to spend more money and my problems would be over.  I wish I could do that with my customers.

Anyway, thanks for the "support"...

If anyone else would like to share their solution please let me know... I'm going to keep working on this problem and if I come up with an answer, I'll be happy to post it.

Netabove,

Sorry if that came across that way as that wasn't really the intention. I was mainly looking to inform you that there is an alternative if you are having difficulty. At the same time we do offer assistance in migrating plugins for WordPress MU. Usually we can migrate a plugin within about 2-3 hours. (note: there is an hourly charge)

Also I am not sure if you have tried this one or not: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-recaptcha/  -  I have reviewed the code and it looks like it should work. Although the one thing that is tricky about reCaptcha is the way it handles URL strings. So I didn't go in that deep with the code. But give it a whirl and let me know if that works.

Again if you need any further assistance please feel free to contact our support desk.

Hi again Stephen...

That's actually the same plug-in I've been working on... The newest version (2.9.8.2) doesn't work at all but the last working version for WP 2.9.2 was wp-recaptcha 2.9.6.

I've had to do some altering but at least now I can install the plug-in and it will save the configuration without throwing an error or telling me in the plug-in section of WP that I have to enter the public and private keys...

Now all I have to do is figure out why it won't show up on the comment form... After installation and configuration are done, there is no evidence (either with rendered html or java) that the plug-in is working at all...

I know I'm probably just missing something simple.

On another note... There are directions on how to install the plug-in for Wordpress MU but if they are followed it takes down the entire blog (white screen).

I'm happy to attach my work so far if someone wants to take a crack at it... :)  Again, if I solve the riddle, I'm happy to hand it over so you guys can offer it in the plug-in area.

Here is the download link for the package... It's coming from my site so it's very safe.

Netabove,

I haven't had much time to dig deeper in to the code - but I have replicated what you have mentioned in the post. I will continue looking into this although my schedule is quite booked till close to the middle of next week. So I will try to get a solution before then but it will be close to the middle of next week.

Thank you for your patience.

It's no problem at all... I've been using Akismet with my client and it's been working well so far but for whatever reason they still want to see it there even though it works.  I've been playing around with it as well but this one is tough for some reason.

As long as they're not seeing the spam, they're ok for now :)

Netabove,

In our experience Akismet is by far the best solution. Because it promotes peoples to post. Captcha are best for registrations and things like - not for posting comments as there are tools that run in the background. We find that even on our busy blog Akismet handles 99.99% of all spam that comes through and makes our life painless.

I will continue to look into the Captcha and see if I can make it work.
