Hi, I'm interested in the acl package and have a few questions. I've been playing with the demo site and it seems very good and does pretty much want I want it to do, I set the config to deny by default then created a normal user and gave them access to the news section, but they could still see and edit all of the other articles, is this correct? I'd have thought that they shouldn't be able to see any of them except the ones in the section I gave permissions for.

Also, I presume this component is encoded, which core files get modified? We run a modified joomla setup and I need to be able to keep certain files they way they are. Are the modified core files still encoded?

Is it possible to completely hide a frontend menu for certain groups? I want a menu for each set of users with another group having access to all of them.

Many thanks in advance
Stuart

Can you explain this in a bit more detail? Like an example of what you have done on the demo site.

The component is not encoded and the code is freely editable.

Yes - you can do this through hidding the module.

Hi Steven

Thanks for your reply, I realised after I'd posted that I could just hide the module.

What I did on the demo site was to set the default to deny all, gave a user allow access to the section FAQ and nothing else. However when I went to edit articles that user could still edit all of them. Am I missing something?

I will update to the latest this weekend and see if that resolves things.

I just tried again, creating a new group and giving access to faq only and it is working. Is it possible to hide article they don't have permission to edit?

Also, is it possible to hide certain items from the list in cACL? I need to give a user access to the component so they can administer the site but I don't want them having access to installers and most of the modules. If I disable them in cACL but give them access to it then they can give themselves access to anything I denied them?

Thanks

Just disallow them access to community ACL, com_installer, and the components and modules you wish for them not to have access to.
