Hello,

I am very intrigued by your Wordpress product for Joomla!.  Please forgive me, I am skilled with Joomla! but I know very little about Wordpress.

I have a customer who I built a website for with Joomla! and I set up a blog for her using Joomla! articles and a 3rd party commenting system.  This arrangement isn't really working out.

She has given me 3 examples of blog's she really really likes (functionality wise) and they are all Wordpress blogs.  I have 4 specific functions I need to know if your product can do, and then I will be happy to purchase right away.

1) Her website is www.jolynntoma.com and I need the the site to remain exactly as you see it, but I need the new Wordpress component to replace the 'blog' page.  www.jolynntoma.com/blog  Will it seamlessly integrate?  In other words, will the other pages on the site such as 'about' and 'recipes' remain as is, and will the new Wordpress page look as though it is native to the website?  Or will it run in funny looking windows or something of that nature?

2) She wants nested comments, is this possible? (where comment replies display under the original comment)  This should be a common function of Wordpress, as I have seen this in the examples she gave me, but again I don't know for sure.

3) Can the system (either Joomla! or the Wordpress component) send email notifications when new posts arrrive?  Specifically emails from readers to my client when readers post a new comment?  As a bonus, can readers subscribe to posts, where they can receive notifications too?

4) She likes and wants recommend posts to show at the bottom of her blog posts.  Again I think this is native to Wordpress based on examples she has shown me, but I don't really know.  For example. www.carrotsncake.com under blog posts you see "You might also like:"  Is this a function of Wordpress and will your component do this?

Sorry for the list of questions, but these are the features my client is requesting...and I need to make sure I am buying the right software to fulfill these requests.

Thanks very much for your time, and I am looking forward to your reply.

The "About" and "Recipes" pages will stay the same and if you use the Twenty Ten Wordpress theme that comes with Wordpress for Joomla, Wordpress will load in the main content area of your Joomla template just like any other component. An example is on our demo site using the RHUK Milkyway template (the default Joomla 1.5 template). It looks like Joomla is installed on www.jolynntoma.com/ so you could simply create a menu item for Wordpress and set the menu item to "blog" and you'll end up with URLs like these:
www.jolynntoma.com/blog/
www.jolynntoma.com/blog/2012/02/name-of-some-post

This is not a feature of Wordpress and subsequently not a feature of Wordpress for Joomla. You may be able to find a plugin that allows this but I would avoid using a theme to do that because it will change the appearance of your blog and it will not be consistent with the rest of the site which sounded important to you from your first question.

3) Can the system (either Joomla! or the Wordpress component) send email notifications when new posts arrrive?  Specifically emails from readers to my client when readers post a new comment?  As a bonus, can readers subscribe to posts, where they can receive notifications too?

You could use a plugin such as Subscribe2 to accomplish this. The users are going to opt-in to these emails, right? If you want them to receive them just for joining the site, you may need to find another solution.

Carrotsncake.com is using the Wordpress plugin Linkwithin. You could install that on her site for the same functionality.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Andy,

Thank you so much for your detailed reply.  I will be making a purchase as soon as I verify with my client.  Thanks.

One quick question.  In reference to:

Can you look at this page?  Still the same carrotsncake website we looked at earlier, she just needs the ability to make the replies like shown here:
http://carrotsncake.com/2012/02/5k-treadmill-challenge-6-x-400m.html#comments

"Tina's" Replies are in teal/blue and appear right under the person she is replying too.  Perhaps using the words 'nested comments' was bad terminology?

Can this be achieved after reviewing what I am actually trying to achieve?

Yeah, nested comments are something else. That would be where there are multiple different levels of comments.

I'm not sure what they're using for that functionality. You could use CSS to accomplish it or there may be another plugin available but I haven't personally used any of them before.

You could always contact that site and ask them what they're using!
