Installing Plugins
To install a WordPress plugin in Joomla!, you should upload the files via FTP.
Ideally, your WordPress content folder should be in number 2. Therefore, when you uninstall WordPress to upgrade, all of your files (media / plugins / themes) won't be removed.
For instructions on changing the contents folder of wordpress Click Here.
Once you have figured out where to put the plugin, just upload the files as they come when you have downloaded them.
Post-Installation
This video tutorial will teach you how to get WordPress for Joomla! set up on your site after installation.
It includes setting up the following:
- Menu Items
- Modules
- SEF Joomla/sh404sef
- Front-end Admin
CSS Style Sheet
By default, WordPress will use the default style sheet. You can easily change this under Settings ->General -
If you just installed WordPress and your website looks a little funky, you can change the above to either Minimal or Custom, or None if you want. These style sheets can be edited through the Theme Editor built into WordPress or through FTP.
Sidebar / Widgets
There are two different kinds of sidebars.
- The first one can display inside the component itself and not as a module. It comes by default with the installation of WordPress.
- The module sidebars (there are 4 of them). You can put different kinds of widgets in them. These sidebars can be put in any module position throughout the website.
By default, the first sidebar is enabled. If you are planning to use the module sidebars, we recommend that you go under Settings ->General and change the settings “Show Sidebar” to NO.
To add widgets to each of the different modules, go under Appearance -> Widgets.
Role Syncing
The way WordPress decides what roles are applied to each user will depend on the users Joomla! user group and if Role Syncing is turned ON and on the Default user role, both located under WordPress General Settings.

Permalinks
It is possible to use Joomla SEF and not use the custom WordPress permalink structure. If you choose to do this, the structure will simply default to a basic structure of /archives/123
If you decide to use a certain structure for the Permalinks, Joomla! will then adapt and build the custom structure how you want it. You must have Joomla SEF turned on for this to work.

Using XML-RPC
This feature for WordPress is used for applications like offline blogging tools, iPhone WordPress app, etc.
To allow xml-rpc to work within Joomla!, you must enter to your application the following site URL:
http://yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_wordpress
Ensure that you have XML-RPC turned on in the WP settings.
Multiple File Upload
The Flash uploader won’t work right after installing WordPress. Instead, you must move the file located in: /joomlaroot/administrator/components/com_wordpress/wordpress.php to this location: /joomlaroot/administrator/
This must be done so the server can see that the user who is trying to upload the file is actually a registered user and is logged in.
WordPress for Joomla! in your own language
Installing a language file is just like installing it for a standalone installation of WordPress. For more information read WordPress in Your Language.
You must download the .mo file and install it under your contents directory under the folder /language/ (you need to create it if it doesn’t already exist).
Then follow the instructions on this page.
The wp-config.php file is located under: /joomlaroot/components/com_wordpress/
As of now, some themes that are translated, but not all of them. They will be translated in the order that they are requested.
Display WordPress in its own template
This is helpful for those who want to display WordPress in its own template and not within Joomla!, but still want to allow users to have one username for both parts of the site. Watch the Video.

More to come!
Install
Please read all the steps before starting.
- Ensure that the folder /joomlaroot/images/ has the permissions of at least 755. Depending on the type of server you use, it may need 777. If you are not sure what it needs, change it to 777.
- Install the component as any other Joomla! extension through Joomla!’s installer.
Upgrade
It's very simple! Check out the 3 steps below.
Note: Users who are not performing an upgrade may skip this section.
Please read all the steps before starting
- 1. Uninstall the current version that you have on your site. It may be a good idea to set your site to be offline at this time, depending on how much traffic you receive.
Note: you may be able to skip this step, but odds are that you will still have to do it. To find out, check under Settings -> General. If the setting: “Use default content path for WordPress” is set the NO, then you need to take this step. - If you have made any customizations to the WordPress template files, then make sure you create a backup so that you can restore those changes after the installation.
- Move, backup, rename or delete the folder that is located here: /joomlaroot/images/wordpress/themes/default
- After the installation, take any custom changes you made to the old template files and apply them to the new template files. - Now install the new version. If any errors show up on the installation, instructions will also be given. Please follow them accordingly.
There is no need to make a backup of the database because it is never deleted. In the worst-case scenario, the component simply won’t install. In that case, just install the old version and This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Migrate
This couldn’t be easier. From WordPress version 2.7, onward, you can export your site from your current standalone installation and import it to the new installation. It won’t matter if you are installing from a fresh installation or from an upgrade because the migration will just add to your current posts.
NOTE: (PLEASE READ)
If your server times out once you are performing an installation, this is because the component is much larger in size than 95% of the other extensions. You will know if you get an error, because you will see a white screen after waiting for the installation, or you
will see an error on the screen. To work around this, upload the component to your server and try one of the other installation methods that Joomla offers.
DOUBLE CHECK WORDPRESS SETTINGS AFTER ANY TYPE OF INSTALLATION!
