How to use

After installing the extension, you can browse to the extension by going to Component -> JPhoto -> Categories. From here you can create a new category by clicking on the new button. While creating a new category you will notice that it is much like creating a new Joomla! category. If the image option is set to Random from Default, it will display a random image from inside the category chosen from the default images of each gallery. If the image option is set to 'Random from Category, it will display a random image from the whole category.

After saving the category, move into Galleries. From here you can edit the default parameters of the extension. These parameters are all very important and it is strongly suggested to edit them before you to do anything else. Make sure that the sizes of the images are set to fit your needs.

While you are under Galleries, click on the New button. This will allow you to create a new gallery. Give it a name and add it inside a category. The JavaScript Library drop down will show you all of the currently installed plugins. These plugins modify the view of the gallery. If you are a developer, please see the developer documentation. To install plugins, simply download them from our downloads section and install them as a Joomla plugin. Editing the plugin through Joomla will give you a set of different plugin parameters. Each plugin will make use of the image's name, caption and description differently.

After saving the gallery, click on View Gallery to the left of the gallery's name. This will show all of the pictures inside the gallery. From here you can click the Add Photos button at the top. This will bring up an interface that will allow you to upload new images to this gallery. You are able to select multiple files at once to upload. After each file is done uploading you will be presented with a ‘show' button which will allow you to quickly edit the image to add any extra information. Once you are done, click the save button towards the bottom of the form.

After clicking save your page will refresh and a list of all uploaded images will now be listed. From here you can select which image you would like to make the default image for the gallery.

After you are done you can create a menu item to link to your gallery! Go to your Joomla! menu of choice and click on New to create a new menu item. Select JPhoto from the list. From here you can select from many different options. Here is a description of what each one of them does:

  • Categories -
    • Displays a list of all categories. Depending on the configuration it may display an image next to the name and description.
  • Category -
    • Displays a list of all the Galleries inside of a category. Depending on the settings each gallery may display an image next to its name and description.
  • Gallery -
    • Displays a list of all images inside a gallery. The size of the image may vary depending on the settings.
  • Image -
    • Will display the image view of a single image. An image ID must be provided for this menu item to work correctly. You can get the image ID when viewing a gallery through the back-end: The column to the far right will display the ID.

After creating the menu item, you can go to your homepage and browse to it.
