Installing Plugins

To install a WordPress plugin in Joomla you should upload the files via FTP.

Find your content folder

Ideally, your WordPress content folder should be in number 2. Therefore, when you uninstall WordPress to upgrade, all of your files (media / plugins / themes) won't be removed.

Once you have figured out where to put the plugin, just upload the files as they come when you have downloaded them.

CSS Style Sheet

By default, WordPress will use the default style sheet. You can easily change this under Settings ->General - If you just installed WordPress and your website looks a little funky, you can change this to either Minimal or Custom, even None if you want. These style sheets can be edited through the Theme Editor built into WordPress or through FTP.

Sidebar / Widgets

There are two different kinds of sidebars.

1. The first one can display inside the component itself and not as a module. It comes by default with the installation of WordPress.
2. The module sidebars (there are 4 of them). You can put different kinds of widgets in them. These sidebars can be put in any module position throughout the website.

By default, the first sidebar is enabled. If you are planning to use the module sidebars, we recommend that you go under Settings ->General and change the settings “Show Sidebar” to NO.
To add widgets to each of the different modules, go under Appearance -> Widgets.

Role Syncing

The way WordPress decides what roles are applied to each user will depend on the users Joomla! user group and if Role Syncing is turned ON and on the Default user role, both located under WordPress General Settings.

Permalinks

It is possible to use Joomla SEF and not use the custom WordPress permalink structure. If you choose to do this, the structure will simply default to a basic structure of /archives/123
If you decide to use a certain structure for the Permalinks, Joomla! will then adapt and build the custom structure how you want it. You must have Joomla SEF turned on for this to work.

Using XML-RPC

This feature for WordPress is used for applications like offline blogging tools, iPhone WordPress app, etc.
To allow xml-rpc to work within Joomla!, you must enter to your application the following site URL:
http://yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_wordpress
Ensure that you have XML-RPC turned on in the WP settings.

Multiple File Upload

The Flash uploader won’t work right after installing WordPress. Instead, you must move the file located in: /joomlaroot/administrator/components/com_wordpress/wordpress.php to this location: /joomlaroot/administrator/
This must be done so the server can see that the user who is trying to upload the file is actually a registered user and is logged in.

WordPress for Joomla! in your own language

Installing a language file is just like installing it for a standalone installation of WordPress. For more information read WordPress in Your Language.
You must download the .mo file and install it under your contents directory under the folder /language/ (you need to create it if it doesn’t already exist).
Then follow the instructions on this page.
The wp-config.php file is located under: /joomlaroot/components/com_wordpress/
As of now, some themes that are translated, but not all of them. They will be translated in the order that they are requested.

Display WordPress in its own template
