WordPress is an amazing platform that seems to just keep growing in popularity. Recent stats have shown that approximately a fifth of all new websites are launched using the WordPress platform.
There are really two big reasons why WordPress has become so popular.
The first reason is that publishing content is more important than ever in terms of business results. It can help you gain search rankings, social media standing, etc.
The other reason is that WordPress allows non-coders to add a lot of functionality to their websites through plugins. There is a huge community of coders that provide the tools for people to add a lot of bells and whistles to their websites with just a few clicks.
It’s easy to get stuck in the trap of adding more and more functionality through new plugins to a website. However, it might be doing you more harm than you might think. Continue reading →

Today, jomDefender 1.2 is released with support for Joomla 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7.
The following features have been added:
File integrity checks
When enabled this function will go through all of the files in your Joomla installation. It will check size, ownership, permissions, last modified time and file checksum, all this information is stored in the database. Each time the cronjob is ran it will check the files for any differences. If any file is different than previously checked, an email will go out with information to the administrator. This information can be used to alert of any hacked files or new files in the system. Continue reading →
Anyone who has tried to add CSS3 to their site knows how difficult and time consuming it is to figure out the correct code for the correct browsers. Also, how do I make it work with IE? Wonder no more! With the Automated CSS3 Generator Plugin all you need to do is enter the values for the CSS3 you need and it does the rest. It also only outputs the CSS for the browser you are using so you won’t need 4 lines of CSS to do a simple rounded corner anymore. Continue reading →
This is a release to fix one issue that some users have been experiencing – a conflict between jomCDN and JomSocial. They both had the same class name for Amazon S3, therefore causing a fatal error. This is fixed now, and you can download the new plugin. To upgrade simply install the new version over the previous one, and your configuration will not be deleted.
We appreciate all the great support we have received for this extension. We are excited to continue improving it by adding multiple domain support, more CDN services, and support for more file types.
Everything about JPhoto has been revamped! We’ve updated the plugins, a module and the jphoto extension, we also added a Joomla! content plugin. The extension has more options, the plugins are easier to use, install and develop, and the random image module has a lot of new options! Before upgrading, please read the “How to Upgrade” section at the bottom of this post, of course.
Over the weekend, one user of WordPress for Joomla! submitted 4 new plugins to us. We had one of them already, but she added some extra documentation by the looks of it. These plugins are available for WordPress single blog and WordPress MU:
Today a client and I were working together to get his website done. As some of you know, WordPress MU for Joomla! doesn’t allow the <embed> HTML tag, which means that the users can’t embed videos. Fortunately, the client found a WordPress Video Plugin. After testing it I realized that it works without any modifications, so I added it to the list of plugins for WordPress for Joomla! and WordPress MU for Joomla!
Today I finally finished a plugin and a template that work together. The WordPress MU plugin and template allows a display of sitewide tags.
The plugin basically creates a new blog. The plugin will then create a new post on this blog automatically every time a user creates a new post. Currently there is no need for that since we already provide the EveryHome Template which dynamically pulls posts site-wide, but this plugin actually stores them to the database.
The next release for WordPress MU for Joomla! is here! I have moved all of the WordPress and WordPress MU for Joomla! data and work flow into more organized systems to help speed up development and keep track of bugs, feature requests and plugin requests. After a while, post-its just don’t cut it.
We have opened up an account with LightHouse. This web service allows tracking of tickets, and we are using it to track bugs, feature requests and plugin requests for our WordPress extensions. Soon we’ll also be using it for Community ACL.
Today I am pleased to announce the first release of the JomSocial Plugin for WordPress MU! This plugin fully integrates with the JomSocial platform and allows you to show the latest postings for any user you choose. Enjoy, and let us know what else you would like to see!
Plugin available in the Subscription area for WordPress MU.
